Care of terry towels

First washing

The first washing of terry products should be preformed at a temperature 30°C. During the first wash, loops in the structure are captured and soft textile dust generated during the manufacturing process is removed out. Subsequent washing is carried out at a temperature which is specified on the product label, e.g. white colour 95 °C, light colours at 60 °C and dark colours at 40 °C. Then, if you wish, the products can be dried in a dryer with low or medium heat settings.

Fabric conditioners

We don not recommend using fabric conditioners for the towels. They fill up the gaps in the fabric, which subsequently results in reduction of absorbency. Caring of terry towels is very easy due to exceptional properties of the raw material. Problems usually occur in case of improper handling of terry towelsor improper care. Therefore, it is always very important to carerfully read the instruction for washing and maintenance.

Change of the colour

Permanent colour may also be affected by a washing powder which contains an optical brightener. In this case, the colour change is not caused by a lower level of colour stability in the dyes used. It is caused by these brighteners instead. Optical brighteners are products that absorb invisible UV rays of the daylight and then they radiate the rays beck in the form of a visible light. This pehenomenon may cause apparent colour change. Presence of optical brightening agent in the washing products is specified on the packing.

Whe washing coloured towels, we do not recommend using chlorine that is not stable in regards of colours. The process of bleaching would cause loss of colour.

Formation of fluffs

Formation of fluffsis caused by loosening of fibres. Short staple fibre breaks away from long staple fibre, which results in small cotton points on your fibre. Formation of fluffs may also be caused by the process of abrasion, either between different parts of a textile product or between the product and other object. Therefore, we recommend filling the washing machine up at least to the halfway level. When machine is not completly filled, towels rub against  the walls of the washing drum much more, instead of letting water molecules to act on them to a greater extent. Cut fabricf (e.g. various velour finishing) have have greater tendency to form fluffs than terry towels. After the towel has been woven, it may still contain loosened fibres that become visible during washing. Regarding the combed yarn there are fine particles releasing even in the first DAYS of use. This is typical for the manufacture of terry fibres.

Sticking

Sharp or pointed objects may become caught in a loop and cause the loop rapture. To enjoy convenience of your towels for a long time, you should avoid any contact with sharp, pointed or cutting objects. Do not use your towel as a polishing cloth in the bathroom or as a wiping tool for walls and WCs; any contact with sharp objects releases the loops. The loops that have been pulled may be carefully trimmed. If you tear them up, you could tear up other loops of your towel too.

Shrinkage

An important feature of the cotton is that it can be boiled up during washing. The disadvantage is that it suffers from coagulating. There is the case of precipitation and loss of colour during the first wash at the temperature of about 95 °C; this process of precipitation and loss of colour occurs in a greater extent than at the temperatures of up to 60 °C. For this reason, we recommend doing the first wash at the low temperature (30 °C).

Hardness

When washing, it is important to use the detergents in a reasonable extent. Too much detergent may cause capture of the detergent in the fabric, even after proper rinsing. This results in the towel becoming rough. You should always use a washing powder in moderate amounts. You should rinse the drum properly.

Recommendation: When using detergents of the types of Ariel, Persil, the amount of 3 cl of the detergent is sufficient with the water hardness class 5.

Kind of water used, whether from the mains, rainwater or well water, usually does not affect the washing process. What is very important is the method of drying. When using the dryer, towels are smooth and soft, like in the case of drying outside on a clothesline. However, if a towel is exposed to severe sunlight or being dried over a heater (direct heating), then the fibres are much tougher.

Terry towels should not be ironed. This could cause crushing of the loops and disappearing of the soft velvety appearance. The loops could also absorb fluids in a lesser extent.

When buying towels, it is important that you choose the right ones for you.

Colour and design must correspond to your interior; the size must be appropriate to the intended use. While taking proper care, you should not experience any problems.
